The Grunch: 2022 2023

This has probably been one of the hardest shows I have ever directed. The sets, and costumes are used only briefly and then stolen away.  We decided to try some new styles of choreography this year that we have never done before. For the first time ever, our tech crew helped design and build our sets. And this year we also had the biggest cast I have ever worked with: 71 students. That’s a lot of kids! But that’s not all. On top of all that, we decided to throw a sneaky spy scene and an unscripted fight scene into the show. Why? Because it’s fun!  Was it difficult at times to make the blocking work? Yes. Were students exhausted at the end of each dance rehearsal? Yes. But was it worth it?  Absolutely!

I want you to know how proud I am of this cast. We expected a lot out of them right from the beginning, and time after time they exceeded those expectations. They are hard working, positive thinking, wonderful, amazing kids and I can’t adequately describe the joy they have brought into my life. Every single one of them has been essential to the success of this show.  I hope they know how much I adore them, and that I love them no matter what.

As you watch our show tonight, I hope you catch a glimmer of just how brave, capable and strong these students are. I hope that you cheer them on, whether they deliver a perfect show or not. I hope you find yourself smiling, laughing, cheering, and wanting to dance in your seats. Cause tonight, you are all part of the magic. You are the reason we have worked so hard for so long. This show is for you. Thank you for your support, and love. Thank you for being here tonight. Enjoy the show!

Love,

Mrs. Kirkland
