Hey Provost, our sixth grade students had the opportunity to study the solar system and how heat transfer works. They had some quick lessons about the Sun, radiation, and conduction.

Students then broke out into groups to design and build solar ovens using a variety of materials. Designs were really unique!

They then took their solar ovens out on the hottest day of the year so far to try to melt s’mores. The dripping chocolate and marshmallow prove that many of the oven designs worked. Everyone agreed that the testing was the tastiest part of the engineering process!
